Want a Ram, but scared.
The tranny problemis more a maint issue. My tranny guy tells me he sees as many Ford and GMtransmission failuresas Dodges. My ram is a keeper!
My rams in the shop getting burnt up clutches and a locked tq converter after a month of having it, but id guarantee whoever owned it before me drove it hard or didnt take good care of the tranny. Over $2000 in damages.
Don't be scared by a bunch of guys telling u bad things .
Every auto maker has engineering flaws.
Itreally depends on how the vehichle was driven and maintained.
Just think about your choice and if there is a lot of warning bells going off
in your head than don't do it.
I've owned all three of the major american brands and liked them all my Dodge just
seems to be what I like the best .
Who know's maybe 2 or 3 years down the road I'll be driving a Chevy again.

for around $400 in parts, you can install an APS upgrade kit that makes the trans very near bulletproof. most people dont go this route until their $2k trans is toast already, however.

It's probably a shift kit and clutch packs or a torque converter and shift kit or something like that.
Also, be afraid of the dodge ram. They are pure junk. Only idiots drive Dodge because everyone knows their transmissions fall apart as soon as you press the gas pedal for the first time. CHEVY 4 LIFE!!!!!!

I have had my ram since I was 16 I am now 22. We all know how teenagers abuse their vehicles. When I bought my ram it had less than 35,xxx miles on it and I am now at 263,xxx. My truck see's a minumum speed of 100mph atleast once a month and I like to manualy shift my auto especialy when I am in the mountains. I have litteraly put my ram through hell and high water (drove through water that was just a little higher than the headlights). She has never left me on the side of the road and I didn't have any tranny problems until I passed 250,xxx miles. The only real problems I had before 200,000miles was a wheel bearing and a clogged cat. Also Between 50,000 and 250,000 miles the tranny fluid was only changed twice. I have also pulled many trailers and a few cars behind my truck on long trips. I have put close to 10,000lbs behind my truck on a trailer and hauled it from memphis to nashville on several occasions when my fathers work truck (a 92 f250 diesel) has been in the shop. But this is just my experience I am sure their are 10 people out there with horror stories of their ram.
