I've blown Chevy trannies before. To make a blanklet statement about any brand is either an attempt at nonsense, or admiting stupidity. Not my place to judge which however.
You should never run anything but ATF+4 in the later model rams.

My best guess is he was talking about the master rebuild kit.

Id check out some of their products though.

I know almost any auto tranny can be blown if you drive like a nut and jam the throttle at every light and then add a bunch of aftermarket stuff and don't even think about the tranny then yea ur asking for trouble. I deal with diesels a lot and it happens with chevys fords gmc's and dodges. Guys put the programmers making 100 extra hp and they rip on it hardcore and eventually the tranny starts to slip and then it's done for.

Moto I hope you are kidding because to have a truck that you think is a piece of junk then put a couple grand or more in aftermarket parts into what you think a piece of junk is then well I gotta say ur a moron. If i had a vehicle I didn't like the last thing on my mind would be aftermarket parts for it

Haha you guys who thought I was serious are silly. If I thought dodges sucked I would have spent my money in all the wrong places. Here's my 06 that will eventually be turbo charged with a suncoast 518 tranny and lowered for performance, right now only has the mods in my sig and here is my 98 4 inch lift, on black rims, 33 inch bfg's mopar posi out back and an e-locker up front.

shopkeeper
The man who told me this about Dodge's is my father and he's had multiple trucks of every brand in his time. He was about to buy a dodge about a year ago but just couldn't do it. Keep in mind that this guy used to turn a wrench for a living so he knows what he's talking about when it comes to vehicles.

Something I have to comment on also is that a lot of you list off your problems and say it's okay. Do you enjoy spending money on a broken down vehicle? One poster said "nothing that can't be fixed with time and money" which is ridiculous. Or maybe I just know the value of a dollar? I've had 120k absolutely trouble free miles on my current Toyota (I know someone isn't gonna like that I drive a jap truck) and I like not spending money to fix things.

I hope I'm not coming off too strong here because I don't want to start an argument. Please feel free to comment and thank you all for the replies so far. I look foward to reading more!
Shopkeeper, it kind of sounds like you made up your mind as far as if you are going to trust the dodge our not. I realize that you have more trust for what your dad says (and rightfully so) than what the restof us here think. Obviously we chose dodge fora reason, thats why all of us are here. I have been in and around trucks my whole life. No one in my immediate or extended family really have a thing for cars. I have grown up around Ford, Chev and Dodge. Every single one has proved it's worth for my family and relatives. I have had 2 Dakotas, 2 Durango's and now I have my CTD Ram. The first was a 94 dakota that had 110,000 miles on it when I sold it, I had it since 44,000 miles and not one single problem. The second dakota is a 98 that I bought with 2800 miles on it. My family still owns in with 140,000 miles, not a single problem. First durango was a 2000 and traded it with 89,000, no problems. We have 42,000 miles on our 04 durango and haven't had any problems and my CTD has 25,0000 miles. I have a 93 Chev that has 239,000 miles and had to put $880 in to the transfer case, but no problems with the tranny. My dad has an 03 Duramax that he is having the tranny replaced on. However, we have had numerous Chev vans and other trucks, all have been great. Uncles have had Fords and never had anything go wrong with them.

I guess what I am getting at is, do what has worked for you and the people you trust. I would / have recommended Dodge to Family and friends because of how they have performed for me. As long as you take care of things, they usually take care of you.

Good luck in what ever you choose. If it is a Dodge, show us some pics and hang around, there is some great info here. I mainly hang out in the cummins section, but venture out every once in a while.

dear shopkeeper,
i had a 4l60e chevy tranny in my last truck and the damn sunshell gear just snapped one day. guy at the tranny shop told me they were known for their weak sunshell gears and it was a common problem, so not to sound redundent but, all manufacturers have problems..... if they made a perfect indestructible automobile then nobody would have to buy a new one. if your scared to buy a dodge then fine, stay with your toyota, but they break to... and now your lookin at dealer parts for the most part. they all cost money man take care of it and it will you, but for the love of god stop asking the same question, take the pon out and buy the friggin thing

I realize all things break, but the fact that the Toyota I own has never broken down in 120k miles (we've ran the **** out of it) and reading the ram mileage thread and seeing all the things that were replaced in the low miles listed quite frankly scares the hell out of me and I'm not made of money.

aka_chewy was right, I guess I do pretty much have my mind made up and I'm listening to those that I love and trust. I guess you all can move on now there's nothing to see here.
