Ok, two nights ago my headlights were fine. Today they don't work...

Last night they began turning on and off, almost like they were tripping a relay... The problem there is that on my 97, there is no relay for the headlights. There is a fuse, but no relay... The fuse is fine.

My high/low switch could be to blame, but I doubt it... I can hold the switch up and my high beams come on and stay oo so long as I continue holding it.

Thus, I conclude that the headlight switch is faulty... I replaced the factory one not too long ago with one from ABC Auto... But, before I go out and get another one, I thought I'd check with you guys...

Is there anything I'm skipping over? Could the switch from ABC be of poor quality? Is it even the switch? The pulsating from last night has me kinda of stumped... My first thought was a relay issue, but that, so far as I know, cannot be the case on my truck...

Am I right in thinking it is the switch? Or am I missing something?

 

Check the ground wires both on the switch and on the light itself.

 

I had a problem similiar to this on my dakota. I would go from high beams to low beams or vice versa and it would knock out my headlights, yet my parking lights/fog lights would stay illuminated. Turned out to me a "headlight indicator switch"(or something like that, i forget the actual name)

 

Your friendly neighborhood dodge dealer has a revision kit to repair your problem. It includes a new headlamp switch, harness with plug, and a relay to take the high current out of the headlamp switch. As for another brand headlamp switch, it is most likely of the same quality, however, if you did not replace the socket plug and terminals, the now loose terminals will damage your newer switch by melting.I strongly recommend the dodge revision, unless you are electrically inclined. There are some nice threadson here to do the same thing, but on a tighter budget.
