Default newbie with knock question

Yes I searched....I am new to the forum, been a Jeep guy for awhile and recently bought a 99 1500, 4x4 w/the 360. The 360 is the issue, has a knock I have read about others having. My question is this, it only knocks when the engine is warm. I just noticed it because I usually warm it up first but took off in a hurry yesterday in the cold, no knock. Once it warmed up knocked like hell. I am also using some oil, not sure how much yet since I have only had it a little while. Any help would be appreciated, cause other than the knock I love the truck. Thanks

I would gues it is the plenum also. Dodge test procedure is with engine warmed up to pull hose off the air cleaner and hook up vacuum gauge, pull hose from pcv and plug hose and pvc start engine and run at idle for about 30 seconds if there is vacuum then plenum is bad. They also state that it is normal for pressure to build due to some blow by but do not let get above 3 lbs. during procedure.

Hey, I also have the 5.9L 360...Mine doesnt knock as much.... But if I try to pull something, or I get going on the interstate I can here it pinging..knocking around...whatever you wanna call it... Thats the gasoline... Im pretty sure any V8 needs premium gas.... But, if you try to run regular unleaded in your 360 it will do the same....

I thought about gas, the owners manual says regular unleaded is what is best to use I believe. I guess it couldn't hurt to put some premium in there next time I fill up.

Running premium is a waste of cash. Find out what's causing the pinging. Leaking plenum gasket, too hot plugs, cc carbon buildup, plug wires cross firing ... among other things.
