Im thinking about buying a 99 dodge ram 1500 club cab with the 5.2. The truck is auto and two wheel drive i'd much rather have a 4x4 but yea.. The truck just got painted all around cause the previous owner grinded a wall, any rust on the truck got taken care of. The only problem im having with buying it is the truck has 190K miles on it. Whats the average life of the 5.2? and should i expect any huge problems? Are there any easy signs that its about to explode? trannys about to die? Thanks

 

i got a quad cab with a 5.2 213000 no probs you will prob need a trans soon but these motors are bullit proof you might search for plenum and trans probs

 

190k is a lot of miles. and if you really want a 4wd i would recommend looking for that, in an 00-01 with lesser miles, say <120-130. 5.2's should be good for lots of miles. transmissions are not ($1500-2500), front end parts are not (more $). look beyond exterior paint. use kelly blue book private party - don't overpay.

 

im only gonna pay like 2500-3 for the truck. Kelly blue book says private party value even with that many miles on it is 5,500. Im currently driving a 98 chevy blazer, used to have a big truck and miss the truck, you cant just get rid of a truck lol. Theres also a sticker on the inside of the door for a transmission shop, idk what kinda work has been done to the tranny, i know these trucks are known for tranny problems. Would it be worth a new tranny? possible rebuild? Like i said the body is solid and so is the under body.

 

Wait and get a 4x4....Its what you really want, so why spend money on something thats not what you want?
