Got towed
Today I noticed this weird like rubbing/grinding noise at about 20-40mph.....was worse when I slowed down.....I jst was jst hoping it was ice or snow packed up somewhere....well I was wrong. Driving down the interstate and I go to change lanes and it turns then really yanks the way I was turning.....counter stear...it does it the other way...Im like wow this isnt normal. Pull over...cant see much, there looked like maybe some liquid on the passenger front on the back of the brakes and there was kinda this bad smell. Get back in figure Ill jst limp to the next exit...nope it was worse sounding and swearved bad even at 20mph. So pull over again and the brakes barely worked. Im thinking a wheel bearing? You think it could have messed up the brakes? I am getting it looked at tommarow hopefully. I have had alot of problems rite after one another and am kinda thinking about selling her....dont want to...but I jst might

RE: Got towed
is it a metallic, almost squealing sound? its the wheel bearing then. i've had the drivers side go out on me twice, that noise is burned in my head, i would immediately recognize it. and yes it will start to pull hard to one side, the side thats seizing up. do not drive on it..once that bearing is shot the wheel seperates from the rest of the vehicle...mine stayed on by my caliper and rotor. did you notice it smoking from the bearing and was insanely hot?
jack the side up and turn the wheel slowly while shaking it up and down. look at the bearing and you'll notice tons of play.
here's a pic of mine when it died, and the resulting issue.

RE: Got towed
Yes it was a metallic sound.....The wheel wasnt bent like that and I touched every rim to make sure all the lug nuts were tight and nothing was crazy hot. It didnt pull to one side all the time, but when I turned that way...it like jerked that way pretty bad after that...like a HUGE gust of wind pushed my truck that way. But ya I was guessing the bearing went and took my brake with it...

RE: Got towed
Liquid on the brakes ... bad smell ... like diff fluid? If you soaked your linings with oil (little to no braking) ... you'll be redoing those too. Two things though ... will a bearing failure cause an axle seal to fail, too ... and I thought that oil contaminated brake linings grabbed instead of slipped ...
... just thinking out loud ... sorry bout your truck. [&o]

RE: Got towed
Well it was the bearing...he said it was almost seized up. It didnt take anything else with it...I guess I was jst paranoid about the brakes....and I was half in snow...idk Ill notice if its weird when I drive it tommarow. Should I get the driverside done also...is it gona be close to going out if the other one did? I would rather do it now, then have it go out in a bit...
