Default 97 1500 auto tranny help

I have a 97 dodge 1500 3.9 v62wd. When cold the truck will not go into reverse. When the trannys all warmed up it will go into reverse if i give it some gas and it will jerk into reverse. Also the truck shifts fine form 1-2 gear but 3rd gear i have to give it some gas and shift into neutral then back to drive for it to go into 3rd. From there it shifts fine. Please help me. I just got the truck and need some sort of a direction. Im 17 but am good with working on things. i just dont know anything about dodges or trannys lol Thank you in advance.

it doesn't sound good. i hate to say it but there's probably a replaced or rebuilt trans somewhere in your future. auto trans are not really beginner do-it-yourselfs. you might want to look for another used trans from the junkyard and swap it yourself, or find a pro to rebuild yours.
