Antenna bracket for mirror
Hey everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has seen antenna mounting brackets for on the ram mirrors. I'd just drill a bracket into the plastic but I don't really want to run the risk of getting moisture into the power/heated mirror. Anyone seen a clamp style bracket that will fit? If not I guess I'll try to rig something up.
Thanks.

Antenna for what? I think you will find that trying to use the plastic mirror bracket will just cause it to break from the stress (wind load on the antenna for one). If you are looking to mount a CB or some other transmitting type antenna I believe you need a ground to the vehicle in order to create a ground plane for tranmitting. Need more info to really be able to help.
You are right. It does require a ground plane. I was going to run a ground wire from the antenna back to the body. I've seen the hood brackets that several companies sell and think that the antennas look pretty goofy stuck out in front of the cab.
I was concerned about the plastic being strong enough too, but I figured it could support a clamp on type if the clamp wrapped around the whole extension arm between the door and mirror.
I'd like to use a dual antenna setup to get more powerful front/back RF pattern but don't want to do it if it means sticking antenna's out on the hood. I might wind up just going with a single roof top whipper if I cant get a good mirror mount.

You could always do like I did, I have a 8 1/2 footer, so I just mounted itinto the box. But if you want the dual stick setup, mounting them to the stake pockets is about your only option
Redneck & Ramman both have good ideas. I have a shell on mine so to run my 2 meter amateur rig I use a roof top mag mount. A clamp wrapped around the mirror bracket, even if it was strong enough, would probably not look as good as a well designed hood mount.
i cut a 1/8in plate to mount on top of the front edge of the bed, and stick out slightly in the little cavity between the cab and bed. bolted to the bed its grounded. ~3/4in hole for a stud mount and spring. i only have one on drivers side. you could do two for twins. i use a 2' firestick and i drive into garage w/ about 1in clearance.
it sits under the toolbox so i can put in/take out toolbox w/o affecting antenna.
