I am about to do mine. It has a massive leak and for the last month it has been sticking in first. I am gonna replace it. Wanted to know if anyone had any horror stories, hints or anything. I don't see it being a problem, but I have for a while found helpfull hints and info here. What is a good price. I found a tranny for $850 rebuilt and $1750 installed. If I find a deal on a install I may do that rather than do it myself, but I like to work on cars so I think I will do it myself.
Since one of the first steps is driveshaft removal ... make SURE you mark how it comes out of the yoke. Just a couple dots of paint or a line of chalk is enough. Hate to see you on here in a week or so chasing down a vibration.
I pulled my tranny, rebuilt it for about $300 and put it back in with no problems I would say the whole process took about 30 hours and that is only because I have never dropped a tranny before.
yeah the cross member is a pita to put back in other than that its cake on a liftt the whole process including rebuild took about 6 hrs when i had my 5spd i did it in the drive way by my self that took about 8-10 hrs total
... and use the dip stick and tube that comes with the rebuilt (if it comes with one). I've heard stories of mismatched tubes/sticks/trannys that makes it impossible to get a good reading. You think you're close but you're actually way off.
