Ive been losing my oil pressure 40 to zero back to 40 back to zero, I had it towed to my home. Im going to change the oil pump and sending unit. I have no clue what Im doing so ive done research out my rear on the ends and outs of changing the oil pump. lucky for me the pan will come off with ease without lifting the engine. Since Ive never done this before, what will I need to replace other than the pump and sending unit? what about gaskets for the pan? is there anything that I can get away with not replacing? im extremelly budgeted and the more pennies I can save. the better.

with your pressure bouncing to zero and back, its very possible the only thing wrong is your sending unit. its hard to reach, on the back side of the engine, drivers side. i'm not sure the price, but its probably pretty cheap. you could just try replacing it and/or put on a real pressure gauge temporarily to see what the pump is doing. someone suggested putting the gauge inside the cab so you could watch it. btw, what the factory dash gauge reads is not the real pressure, but just what the computer feels like displaying. if you don't have the factory sending unit connected, i'm not sure what the computer will do (light, code, etc)/
