Default Auto to 5 speed swap

I did a search, but wasn't able to come up with any answers. I have a 2001 Ram QC 360 Auto.
I realize these trans are junk, and was wondering if
#1 a manual trans was offered in 2001?
Will pedals from another year work? 1994-2001?
what actuates the clutch? cable, hydraulic?
I found a 5 speed on ebay rebuilt with a warranty for $1300.
are the manuals anymore reliablethan the autos?
I figure for a swap i would need:
trans
shifter
pedal assembly
clutch linkage or?
crossmember? can auto one be modified?
computer?
clutch components: disc, pressure plate etc.
will my transfer case bolt up or is that different?
anything i am missing?
I am just starting to consider this. I prefer manuals over autos.
what does a GOOD rebuilt auto cost? from where?
I am not having any issues with my trans just trying to do some research for the future.
Thanks
Matt

I converted my 96 a few months ago because i blew out to auto. and i bought a "donor" truck from a salvage yard to get all the parts. from the donor truck i needed trans, crossmember, pedal assembly, clutch slave and lines, the clutch is hydraulic by the way, you may want the steering wheel if you get the right year it would have made things easier for me but the trucks were different years and the splines going to the steering box were different so i had to take the old auto shifter out of the column and weld part of it to keep it from spinning if it spins the key wont turn off, atleast on my year you will need a different crank position sensor as the flywheel and torque converter are different diameters, make sure to get the flywheel machined down when you do this, if i remember correctly i used the front driveshaft of the donor truck and my origional rear driveshaft from my auto, i dont believe that the computer will need reprogrammed, mine did not but it may be throwing a check engine light, i really dont know cuz i took the bulb out a long time ago. and if you get the choice i would try to get a nv4500 they are a lot tougher than the nv3500 but they are a lot more expensive too atleast thats what i noticed and the transfer cases should be the same although i had to adjust my linkage a little bit the only thing that ihavent done is get the reverse lights to work as soon as i bother to try ill let you know on that one

They came with them, NV3500 I think? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Best bet would be a donor truck. Buddy of mine did an Auto to manual swap on Cherokee. Said it was easy and straight foward, only thing he had to do was mess with and bypass the Park/Neutral switch.

Wow that sounds like a good price for a really good looking truck. About 3 months after I bought mine it seems like the market dropped for these trucks as they were going for a premium when I got mine and quickly went to being worth almost nothing. Guess thats what happens when gas prices skyrocket right after I buy a truck. I wish I'd waited for mine but oh well. I love it anyway.

my donor truck cost $900 i think the only extra things i had to buy were the clutch and getting the flywheel resurfaced
