timbren helper springs installed
Looking at installation instructions and photos, neither the Firestone 8620 or 8621 look correct for a 2nd gen rear axle with leaf springs. Can anyone confirm if Firestone actually makes a kit that fits? Most sources seem to say "no" but there are a lot of versions of this thing which leads me to believe SOMETHING fits.
The timbren version clearly has a bracket that replaces the old bump stop base which is rectangular in shape.

Timbren only.
Just installed some Timbrens on the Front of my 03, and it did lift the front end prob around 1". As the previous user stated with the rear ones, there is no gap between the Timbren and the front axel arm either, resulting in some lift and a noticeably stiffer ride. Im not all that upset about the unexpected lift, as ive been trying to find a leveling kit for this truck without much luck. Now i dont think i need one with these installed. On the down side, the ride is stiffer, but not unbearable i dont think. It def rides more like a truck. And I do think the front may actually be slightly higher than the back now (maybe 1/2") which prob makes the ride even stiffer than it should be, but im considering adding the rear timbrens and see if that brings the rear higher. Prob will make it ride stiffer yet! Im kind of suprised though because i didnt think the the truck was supposed to actually sit on the Timbrens except under load, but apparantly thats how they fit on these small trucks.
So if you plan to use your truck like a truck, these arent a bad option i think, just keep in mind you will sacrafice some of the smooth ride. I did just install some new heavy duty shocks prior to installing these which also raised the front a little. Had I known the Timbrens were going to raise it, I may have opted for a less stiff shock, that might have worked fine in addition to these. Im really hoping the rear Timbrens will even things back out.
