Default 4 WHEEL DRIVE

I AM NEW TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND AM WONDERING HOW TO LOCK IT IN. DO I HAVE TO BE MOVING? I HAVE THE "I" INSIDE I BELIEVE TO LOCK THE HUBS BUT DONT KNOW IF AND HOW FAST I HAVE TO BE GOING TO LOCK IT IN. I HAVE 1997 RAM. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT.

Just pulling it straight back to 4 HI when you're moving is fine, anything under 50 mph I think. For 4 LO you need to be stopped and in neutral.

Read the manual

If you don't have one, do what kstroeher said. There are no hubs, the front end is connected when you put it into 4wd by vacuum lines

Yep you can put it in 4wd hi when moving but not 4 low. You need to stop and go into neutral for that. I usually stop and put it in neutral reguardless. Although I rarely put in in 4wd hi. To me it's about useless unless just a little snow or something. I don't ever seem to be able to get out with 4wd hi if I get stuck 4 low usually gets me out though. Only a couple times where it hasn't.
