need your input on new tires
Hey guys
just bought my truck last week (99 ram sport 4x4 long bed ) and i need to get new tires. i want something thats all terrain but i dont want my truck to look like it has stock tires, something aggressive. i have around 800 to spend, i was hoping to get new rims, but from the looks of the cost of tires, i wont be able to do that.
so what would you suggest?
thanks
Gerald

AT's don't look all that aggressive because they're on/off road tires. My set of BFG's came in right under $800 ... others have their favorites, too. I'm sure you'll hear from them.
I wanted the same thing you do, an agressive A/T. I spent like an hour at the tire store deciding and I went with the most aggresive looking A/T they had, Yokohama Geolander A/T +II's. I love them so far, the only place I got stuck was in sand, and it was when I had my front driveshaft out, so only 2wd. Other then that I haven't got stuck at all. I can't believe how good they are in the snow. I do better then my friends that have front wheel drive, and front wheel drive is generally way better then rear (excluding 4wd obviously).
Over all I LOVE them. They're wearing good and I can't hear them on the road at all. They were a bit cheaper then BFG A/Ts too which from what I hear they're really only good on pavement and gravel/dirt roads. They suck in mud, wet grass ect.

I have the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's on mine. They look like an aggresive tire but road noise is nearly non existant. Previous to this I had the BFG A/T Radials and those made a ton more noise than these do. I think I paid somewhere around $500 - $550 for all 4. Now they are for sale in the classified section because I have a set of 20's for my truck

I've been running these for the last three years or so. No complaints, except they don't come any larger than 35". Don't hydroplane as bad as others I've had. Good in sand.

Stock size for a 4x4 is 265/75R16 (31") but I run 285/75R16 (33") with a 3" body lift.

I'd probably go with a MT instead of a AT if it was me. If I was to go with a AT I'd look into the Kelly Safari MSR's. A buddy has some 31x10.50's on his S10 and I like the looks of them a lot. If I was going with an AT I think I'd consider them. I'd look into the BFG MT's they look good and preform fairly well on the road and in the mud. Mine don't seem to last me too long but partially due to the fact I've had them get chopped up from bad shocks but others I've heard of getting almost as many miles out of them as they do the AT's. They look pretty good on a truck even on stock wheels to me. They do decent offroad too. Now they arn't too loud in good shape but mine are loud as hell now that they have gotten chopped up. When they are in good shape they have a roar but not too bad. Another thing I'd consider is Dunlop Mud Rovers. They are a lot cheaper and I've heard from several people that own them that they have gotten great milage out of them. To me they don't look quite as good as the BFG but at almost $100 cheaper per tire. Atleast for the ones for my truck I'd consider them.
