well i changed my vss on my trans today because i was told by the tranny guy that that was my problem i also need to change my nuetral safety switch thats bad too i guess he says thats why my tranny is still shifting bad. anyways i drove the truck and still shifting like crap.heres were it gets good i put the truck in neutral andidle it while i check the transfluid and it was reading wayyy high?? but i just lost some while changing out the vss and i hadnt added any yet. so i get back in to drive it and see if it reads normal again and it wont move just will not move at all and my fluid is still real high but i havent added any at all since i bought the truck or since the rebuild. i put the truck in 4 low to make sure i didnt bump it into neutral and it moved about a quarter of an inch and just stopped again. i started revving it up to see ifi could buil up pressure to make the truck move and it started to back fire out of the tb and it started to miss and stumble.and now its sitting infront of my house i let it cool down to see if that would help but nope. im wondering if it could be my cat my exhaust did smell kinda strange which i know is a sign of a bad cat but would this make my truck not move and backire through the tb??? how do i check my cat without cutting it out . thanks

There's more to checking tranny fluid than dropping it into N ... did you drop it into each of the other settings for a bit before returning to N? You have to fill up all the spaces in the transmission and valve body before checking the level. Also ... if it IS too full (I know ... how did that happen) it is just as bad as being too low. The fluid foams and aired up fluid won't transmit pressure.

i did drop it into all the gears first then went back to neutral. but wouldnt the truck automatically push fluid in there? and i know too much fluid is just as bad but i dont want to drain it because something is obviously not right. plus i hadnt even looked at the fluidlevel before this because it was just rebuilt and it just came back from the tranny guy on wednesday because it was slipping againand he said it was fine. all i did was replace the vss which is as simple as taking it out and putting it back in. nothing more. so i didnt screw that up.what if the pump in the trans is gone and thats why its reading high. its like the fluid is just sitting in the pan. regardless whether its hot or cold

not to go against what others have said but the bubbling under the dash could be a bad heater core...

Dude ... we are SO past the bubbling under the dash ... it's air in the coolant ... not a "bad" heater core. We're dealing with a major league power/tranny problem right now.

rango726: Yes, a clogged cat could cause you to have no power and backfire like you described. But if the pump died on the tranny ... it wouldn't be intermittent.

thanks hourg ill take a look because ive done the procedure for getting the air out of my system too many times and it hasnt worked unfortunately that is the least of my problems now. well i talked to 2 tranny shops and both told me that nothing i did would have caused my tranny to crap out so i was relieve about that and they both told me that even if the pump died it would still pump some fluid but not enough to move the truck well in most cases but either way they also said that they had no idea why the tranny guy would tell me that those sensors would cause this problem they said it will never cause these issues. and they told me the only thing that would cause this is a bad rebuild. so i had it towed back there yesterday. theres nothing that pi$$e$ me off more than seeing my truck on a flat bed. so i guess after this is resolved im going to have a friend of mine that does exhaust look into my cat issue if any. and see where i get with that. ive just accepted that im going to have to take it one thing at a time and eventually ill get it.....i hope
