New Truck
Worth attempting to do myself? And this I'm living in Canada, I'm going to assume it's going to be a bit more that $400, that's for sure. I'm thinking the FIRST thing I should do though, is jump on perhaps the reprogrammer. I'm thinking it maybe DF'd if people are saying they can smoke out there tires. I stomp the pedal, and I get a nice roar from the exhaust, but not exactly the greatest take off time that's for sure.

Limited-slip ... open the hood and look up ... you should see a sticker right in the middle of the hood (at the front) that has a pretty good rundown on what you've got in there.
I'll be damned, didn't even see that sticker up there. Lesse, going from memory... It said the front axle was a Dana 44F (though, not entirely sure what that means), the rear axle had a ratio of 3.55, and it said something like Anti-Slip Differential. Not sure what else you'd want to know. I looked on the passenger side firewall, saw a black box with three bundles of wires clipped to it. There was a long white decal on it, but it was just a barcode and a ****load of numbers, I saw nothing else.

The Dana 44 is the type of front axle you have. You also have a Chrysler Corporate 9.25" axle in the rear and your gearing is 3.55. Yes, you DO have limited slip ... that's one of the things that makes it hard to light the tires ... you're trying to light them both off instead of only one. The box on the firewall with the 3 wire bundles is the PCM (Powertrain Control Module ... your computer). The barcode and all that is probably just part numbers and what-not.
Quick question though, if there is no DF and I grab this programmer, will I still be able to make improvements to my truck with it? And will it be relatively straight forward?
Thanks,
Chad.
Thanks,
Chad.
I have the death flash according to the sticker and a LSD in the rear and mine will still easily light them up with a little brake and will sometimes without it.

Not all "Authorized Reprogramming" performed were Death Flashes. There are a number of TSB's that call for a flash of the PCM unrelated to pinging.
Yes ... you can use a programmer with or without a DF. As a matter of fact ... you can "undo" a DF with a programmer as it supposedly only pulled 4 degrees of advance out of the timing. You'll set your own timing with the programmer. All you have to do is follow the instructions.
