Default exhaust system decision??

I am trying to decide what to do about my exhaust. The cat and rest of system. First, I need a new cat and am trying to decide what route to take. Whether to cut out the bottom of the current one and gut it, take cat off and put on a y-pipe with a o2 sim, get a magnaflow, or get a y-pipe and a universal cat. I don't really have the time right now for a DIY project, here are some of the quotes I got.

Local shop (a)- $150 to put in a y pipe and a universal hi flow cat of unkown brand
Local shop (b)- $250 replace with unknown brand hi flow cat
Local shop (c)- $350 replace with direct fit standard cat
MONRO Muffler- $635 replace with direct fit standard cat (I had to laugh at this one)
I don't really have the time to work on it myself right now, but time is running out on what to do. You guys have any suggestions.

I am also going to replace my stock exhaust with a 3" single while I am at it. I was quoted $135 for a cat back system with a Thunderbolt muffler. You guys ever heard of Thunderbolt, I haven't. Anyway, you think I should go for it or wait and get the Flowmaster 3" system when I have more time to putit on myself.

I have a 97' 1500, 5.2l, if it means anything in regards to which system to get.
thanks for your help,

Your truck sounds SWEEEEET! I am going to take the single 3" all the way out. I just prefer the looks of a single 3" coming out of the stock position. Have you ever heard of the thunderbolt muffler. I googled it but no website.

I've never heard of them. I'd personally pay a little more and get a Flowmaster muffler as you know it sounds good.

I just bought this off ebay. haven't even recieved it yet. The guy has a ton of positive feedback. He may be able to put something together for you.

I was hesitant to post just in case I got taken. Please don't flame me for this if it was a bad deal, at least until I get it put on.

I have a MagnaFlo cat and muffler with 3" out all the way. Same performance as Flowmaster at a lower price. My muffler guy hooked me up for $250.

Motox851, Didn't mean to hijack the thread.
Sbrunn9, you said it went on easy, how long did it take you to install it? I'm just guessing that it's a lot less time than Motox851 is expecting. Maybe you can save the labor and put in name brand components for less than what these local shops are going to charge you for unknowns?
