Hey everyone ,

First post over here I'm having some major issues with my 99 2500 4x4 . I just bought the truck used back in 06 it now has 82K on it for miles . The problems it is having is Severe spark knock/Pinging no matter how much you accellerate pretty much 1/4 to full throttle sounds like pebbles in a tin can . Also it is using alot of oil but I see no leaks at all and it is not smoking or burning it from what I can see. I checked the oil last week and yesterday had to put 3 quarts in it.

And now it has no power when up to tempature , I can floor it and it just does not go , sounds like a four barrel carb opening up and she just does'nt have the guts to go... Can you guys help me out with this nightmare..I need to find a good mechanic in Southern NH who I can trust to fix whatever is wrong with it or I'll have to bring it to the dealer ...and ouch my wallet !

update:: truck is now pretty much dead , starts but thats it , misses , pings , bogs , and pretty much just does'nt run at all . try to floor it and it just bogs and dies instantly. Made it a mile from the house today and was down to 5 mph , stop at light and barely move .. Has oil pressure and temp is fine but other than that I dont know ...Oil is going somewhere cant find any leaks ..

it will be like new after that

 

100% certain your plenum gasket is toast. Your intake manifold is sucking oil out of the crankcase and running it into the cylinders causing the massive pinging and mysterious oil usage. It also gives you a huge vacuum leak.

 

I agree it sounds like the plenum. Your cat may also be a problem since they are notorious and the plenum problem can help contribute to their early demise.

 

I would check the catalitic converter. My 99 had similar problems. I took it to the mechanic friend, and he said the cat had a total melt down and had stopped up the pipe. We replaced it and it went 6 months and burnt up the new cat. I went ahead and cored the cat and it has been great ever since!
