Default Strange problem with blinkers

The other night when driving to my girlfriend's house, my blinkers were blinking erratically. Sometimes they'd blink fast then blink normally. Sometimes, they wouldn't come on at all. No green flashers or signals on the outside of the truck. Once I got to her house, I checked them and noticed that when the inside green signal lights were blinking fast, both of the corresponding blinkers were blinking fast as well. I know that a fast blinker means that one or both bulbs are usually out, but this wasn't the case. My flashers worked with both bulbs blinking normally. On the way back home, they worked fine so I didn't think anything of it. Yesterday, they started blinking strangely again except now they've completely quit. No blinkers on the outside or signals on the inside. My warning flashers and brake lights are still working though. Any ideas?

Hold on why all of us determine what year/model truck you have. We are using telepathy so it will take us a moment.

Sounds like you have a bad flasher. It's the easiest place to start.

Intermittent problem like this ... worn contacts on either a bulb or it's socket.

My bad...lol...it's a 96 1500 4x4.

A worn contact on a bulb or socket? It does it on both sides. Would two wear out at the exact same time? I wouldn't think just one would do this.

This is caused by the circuit being completed faster. The reason I don't think it is this is because for one thing, it's both sides screwing up. Another, if a bulb is bad, it's bad...it won't be cutting on and off. It will just be off.

My flashers work fine. It's just my blinkers.

i had the same problem.

the lights worked fine, except turn signal. turned out to be a bad contact on the bulb.

if you take the housing off and move the bulb it will work normal again.

I ended up just replacing the bulb becasue it was less of a hassle...takes about 5 min tops.

there are 2 flashers on works the blinkers and one is for the turn signals. I believe this is it because I had the same problem with my truck. you can check by switching the flashers around and see if it works.

The bulbs can still be going out and yet still work occasionally. But if it comes to not working at all, I would also suspect the flasher unit. I'd replace the bulbs while you're at it since they're just a few cents and would eliminate any problems associated w/ bad bulbs/connoections.

In the fuse box on the side of the dash are two, round flashers. One is for the blinkers, and one is for the hazared lights. I don't know if they are swappable. My 95 has a 2 prong, and a three prong. The 3 prong should be the blinker flasher.

If the flasher does not fix the problem, drop the cowling around the steering wheel. (2 screws on the underside is all)

See if the wiring harness has become loose from the mulit function switch. Thereis sometimes a problem with vehicles where the drivers use the tilt feature on a regular basis.
