285s can go on your with no spacers possible rubbin'
with 2" spacer probably 305s.

btw, can you add spacers to any rim or what, Im wanting to put mine out 1-2" with my new rims to be ordered for spring.

I thought 285's were sized as a 31.5" tire

I have a no lift 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and BFGoodrich all-terrain 285's and they fit just fine...

I dont think you could go any bigger though..

I have 305/70/16 (33") and they fit fine, only rubbing at full lock on the control arms.

285's are like a 32.8" tire. I think thats what it is anyway.

The number 285 you see is the width. The height is determined by a ratio computed with the next two numbers. For example:
Tire one: 285/70/16 is a 32 x 11.22 on a 16 inch rim
Tire two: 285/75/16 is a 33 x 11.22 on a 16 inch rim

To answer your question. I have 33x12.5 right now on my stock suspension w/o any rubbing whatsoever. But it depends on the aggressiveness of the sidewall and the actual measurements of the tire. Different manufacturers sizes come out a little differently according to the weight of the truck.

The lift is not the only factor that determines if you will rub or not. In fact, it is not as important as the backspacing/offset of your rim.
