Default looking at buying a 98 2500 SLT Laramie...

Hi guys, I'm new and am looking at buying a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Laramie with the 5.9L, 4 spd auto and 123,000 miles for $4900

Is this a good deal? Body and everything look clean. What sort of things should I look for? Problem areas and the such that would be associated with purchasing this truck. I've always been a Ford guy but my 85 f-250 is on her last legs and I hate the new Fords. This Ram looks clean and handles great.
Thanks in advance of any advice you can give me on purchasing this truck!

Is the truck reg cab long box, ext cab short box i think you know what i mean what is the body style. Is it 4x4 or 4x2. I don't know but you would if there are any scratches, dents or anything like that but from what the basic info you gave us it probaly worth aroud 6,000 depending on what is wrong withit or other things like that. It sounds like a good deal

it's an extended cab short box 4x4. No dents on the body. NADA book said about $10k avg retail. What's this I hear the trannies are crap?

Im not sure about the trannys but the price i gave was just about an average price from basic info with the extra info i was getting up towards $8,200. $10,000 or $8,200 it still sounds like an excellent deal i would go for it.. My truck i just bought about a month ago i got a really grat deal on paid $5,000 for and its worth over $10,000.
See what major maintence has been done on it because at about that mileage there known for the timing chains to go out and it you dont catch it before it goes out it will take the whole motor with it and thats and $2,000 so thats not cheap

It's got dana 60s front and back, with 4.11 gears and a 241 HD transfer case It's also got a LSD and the 40/20/40 seats. It has a tow package and trailer brake. Heated mirror, auto-dimming rear view mirror.

$4900 seems like a steal.

yeah i would say depends on what the deal is, Are you trading anything in for it? I mean I paid 7 dollars for my 98 dodge ram and it had 92k on the odometer and the seven dollars paid for Tax, license, and new set of tires. But I traded in a 05 ford ranger FX4 and the Ranger was worth more than the Ram so I got it on a steal and I will put up a pic real soon.

No I'm not trading anything in. It's $4900 cash for a 1998 Ram 2500 Club Cab SLT Laramie with 123,000 miles

Well I would say sounds like a good deal but you never know what problems can be lurking. Then again trucks are getting cheaper to buy due too high gas prices
