97 Ram Not Blowing Hot Enough Air
The heater in my 97 ram is not blowing very hot air at all. It is a little warm when sitting and idleing but you get out on the highway and she gets cold. The temp gauge on the highway is around the 180 mark. Heat worked great yesterday now last night it would not get warm. The heater/cooler **** is ok and turning all the way so is there any other suggestions out there? Thank you very much in advance. Jesse
Mine only gets up to 180 so I'm sure it's got a 180 thermostat in it cause I've had two jeeps and they go straight to 210 and the heat will burn ya out. With my truck if it's a really cold day it'll just barely get warm. I would check coolant levels just to make sure then if ya want it hotter wire tie some cardboard in front of the radiator (under the hood) to keep the cold air offor put in a hotter thermostat.
Hey I hear what you are saying about it not blowing hot air. Up here in nodak it gets to -30 below and the heater is a life, but what fan setting do you have? If you have it at full speed it will not produce hot air but if you turn it at lower fans setting such as the number 2 or 3 setting you will get heat in the cab. Ther reason why is that the intake for the environmental controls are sucking in more cold air than it can warm. Also check coolant levels and make sure the heater core is in good condition. I also have my engine temp gauge pegged at 180 degrees, so if I am able to get heat from that I am sure you will as well. B y the way this is my first post.
my truck had the same problem with the stock 195 thermostat. i was able to correct the problem by flushing the coolant and back-flushing the heater core. now i roast in the truck. hope this helps. also sometimes just swaping out the coolant will work due to coolant breakdown it will also cuase poor heat issues.
Thanks a lot for all the quick responces. I will get it in tomorrow for a flush and fill, I will also ask about the back flushing of the heater core. Thanks again everyone.
