Default 1995 auto tranny problems

I have a 1995 1500 dodge with a 5.2 and an automatic tranny.
Every once and a while at lower RPM around 1500 or so i will heard almost a grinding sound. If i kick the trans out of over drive it will go away. I have also noticed that the RPM's will fluctuate almost 100 RPM when in overdrive.
are these problems related? or are they two separate ones?
I only seem to have these problems while in overdrive. If i just use drive there is not an issue. I am usually traveling above 55 mph when the grinding noise is noticed.

Could the problem be a poorly adjusted tv cable? the trans was rebuild not too long ago?

Could the problem be a bad TPS? and i just seem to have the gas pedal in the same position?
has anyone had a similar problem?

help is would be great.

i would just love to find a manual trans to replace it, but i don't think that will happen.

sounds like a broken snap ring in the front of the overdrive unit. have the pan and valve body pulled and look for any metal.

Is that easy to repair in the truck or do i need to pull the tranny? How soon does it need to be repaired? Can i drive a little bit or not?

if it is the overdrive snap ring it will destroy the rest of the trans. pull the pan and look for signs of metal first. is this noise on accel or decell. if it is on decell it could be a t-case rear snap ring but that usaualy is a low speed noise.
