Default Front Driveshaft Oilseal

Hi, having to replace a front driveshaft oil seal on my 2nd Gen Ram 1500 4x4 5.2 due to seeping oil (once I can the the parts shipped over the pond).Looking through the service manual, its looking like special dealer tools are quoted (not easy to get over here in the UK !). If the front driveshaft is removed, is it possible to pull the seal out without these dealer tools ? Thanks for any help and advise

Maybe a difference in terminology between UK and USA - it is the axle on the front drivers side from the front drivers side wheel to the diff. The oil seal at the diff end. Thanks, Steve

if i am understanding you corectly, this leak is from your left front axle seal and is leaking out of the axle tube. if this is the case, the front diff needs to be taken apart, gears removed, which you need a diff spreader to do. i have seen the diff removed with out one but it was difficult. changing the seal isnt bad just make sure it goes in squarly with the tube.

Your axles are what the tires and rims are connected to. The drive shafts are what drive the axles. Your rear drive shaft goes from the transfer case, to the rear wheels. The front drive shaft (which is under your feet on the drivers side), goes from the transfer case, to the front axles.

Do you see fluid running on the back side of the tires? Where do the drops land on the ground?

This pic is primative but do you see fluid dripping from the green circles, or the black circles?

Hi guys, sorry to cause the confusion with the terminology, the oilis coming out on the green circle in your pic - what we call the front half shafts over here, running down and onto the inside hub and tyres. Thanks, Steve

Can anyone clarify for me if for the drivers side oil seal this is drifted in or whether I have to go in through the diff (which seems excessive !!) ? Thanks

see this for pics and step by step. yes you have to pull the differential out and install the seals through the differential cover. yes it is really excessive (actually its stupid).
