Default How do I get different gearing?

So I dont know much about gearing and dont know where to start. I want to get new gearing to make my truck run as if it had stock sized tires for better towing capabilities. I do not know what I am supposed to get to do that. Ring and pinion gears or ...... well I just really have no idea. I only have 33" tires but it did make a difference. What should I do to make the gearing lower to make it as if it were driving with stock sized tires, possibly even lower incase I put 35's on it.

if you have a 2wd you would need a new ring and pinon gear for the rear end. if you have a 4wd you would have to replace both front and rear at about twice the cost (they must match). assuming you have a factory 3.55 gear and an automatic transmission you would probably want a 4.10 for 33-35 inch tires or a 4.56 for 35+. the gears themselves are not too terribly expensive, depending on brand name, but the installation is not for the basic do it yourselfer. its takes some know-how and experience and a couple of special tools. yukon ring and pinion from PORC is about $260 for the rear, i think, install is probably another 125-250+ per axle, depending on whether you can find a buddy that knows how or not. edit.. plus you need a master install kit for each axle (50-100). the front is a bitch because you have to disassemble half the damn front end. what can really drive up the cost is when you decide to add or replace a limited slip or locker, and/or fix front end parts like ball joints, bearings, ujoints, which.. well you've got it all apart anyway.
