Default 99 2500HD blown motor

I picked up a 2500 a few months back....went from Michigan to North Carolina towing my Jeep the begining of March. Well on the way back home the motor started making noise.....luckily I found a Dodge dealer that is installing a different motor. Here is the kicker, this motor only has 77k miles well maintained and the temps were around 180-190. Nothing else out of the ordinary. Now I have to go back down to pick it up and I am worried about it blowing again on the way home. Any advice? Suggestions?

The motoris knocking. I guess my question is/was is this just a fluke? There were no signs at all until the motor started to make noise.....within a little while (the time it took me to find a garage) it was a pretty good knock.

Did you check oil level, not every engine knock needs a new motor to fix. What did shop say the cause was......rod/valve/lifter.

Sometimes all it takes is a good oil change and some combustion chamber cleaner to stop what you may have thought was a knock.

But since it was replaced you will never know, and If its a new motor, I wouldnt worry about driving it home, should have a warranty now.

The oil level was full, the garage didn't look into it yet. All the gauges were fine.....except for when they moved it, the oil pressure gauge was reading zero at idle.....40 when off idle. I am also going to tell them when they open on Monday to put the old motor in the bed of the truck. I'll take it home and find out what went wrong with it.

Just got the report from the garage. They said it got over heated and that is what killed the motor. The funny thing is, the gauge didn't read over 180-190.......Are the gauges that wrong?

no but the heads are known to creat heatspots in them .. witch usually causes the crackes between the vavleseats witch is common.. but i would be willing to wrecking that it could do more damage if allowed ..

Make sure they put 180* T-stat in it when they do it. Little less heat in the winter, much less headache in the summer.
