Default Fastman review

Just got done installing my new 52 mm Fastman. Took less thanan hour, real easy!! My truck seems awake now. It was the perfect mod to compliment the rest of them. I'm nothing but smiles about it! If anyone doesn't know if they should buy on ... definitely buy it! Dan's product looks amazing, the turn around and service was great and I'm 100% satisfied.

another good mod for you is the intake mod... cut the runners down 1.5" and it will wake up significantly on the top end.

Steve,
I now have an intake I bought from 2001Mustang_GT on this forum (thanks dude!). I was planning to do the intake mod. I talked to Dan about it last week, and he said it is a waste of time. He said he has tested it and found it to do very little. He's got piles of them laying around, and he just smashes them for scrap alum. He said M1 is the only way to go, with a B&G M1 flash to go with it.

Now being that I am curious about these sorts of things, I still plan to try the mod anyway, but was wondering what your personal expeience is with this mod, and if the stories that it is a good mod are true, or if Dan is right and it is a waste of time? Anyone else who has done it too, I want to here your stories please.

Oh, and I will be posting about this soon after I have some time to test, but my B&G flashed PCM arrives tomorrow or the next day. Can't wait to plug it in.

well here's what I think... when I had my 1.5" cut manifold on my truck pulled really well in the upper rpms. The freeway 60 to 80mph jump was greatly improved. when I went back to experiment with the 2ndmanifold, it had lost that kick. nothing else was changed except the manifold (cut.25~.5 off the runners). Keep in mind that I had the 5.9 motor. on a5.2, IDKhow much you'd want to cut down but i'd expect the results would be similar. My truck was not a drag truck so it's setup at the time was awesome, wanting to get the best of both worlds (low end & high end) I decided to cut another manifold to see the results. I didnt really see any difference between themon the low end (minimal torque loss) but the top ends were night & day with the nod going to the 1.5" cut manifold. I'dthinkDan is most likely looking at it from a 1/4 mile perspective and looking for peak numbers. what I have never seen is what the dyno says below the peaks... 2000 to 4000 rpms. this area is where you would get the most day to day benifit from it since this is where your motor is operating most of the time.

I had similar discussions with a bmw tuner (also a racer) when I was tuning my 325is, I pointed out that I didnt care much for the peak numbers but was more interested in what gains there were in the mid range since that is where I use the motor on a day to day basis. He agreed and mentioned that too many people get hung up on peak numbers. On your truck with a 318... I wouldnt consider the M1 as it is intended for upper rpms gains. I did consider the M1 for my 2000 5.9 but after much research, shelved the idea because of where it was intended to provide the most gains (upper rpms). If I were building a 360 Dakota 2wd, yeah the M1 would be on my list of goodies. If I ever get another Ram, the manifold mod will be one of the 1st things I do.

I'll have to keep an eye out for your review of the flash updates... i'm curious to your opinion.

Thanks for your opinion on the intake mod. Sounds good to me. I do plan to still try it like I said. As for the new PCM, i'll probably install it this weekend, and then I want to get some miles on it so it learns the mods I have. I'll post something after that.

Silver Dodge- I too, can't wait for your B & G flash review. Very interested to hear the results of your performance gain from B & G. By the way, do you know if these flashes from B & G are towing friendly or will they make the engine pinglike crazy when towing a load? Also, Steve05ram360 thanks for your post regarding your experience with the modded intake by cutting the runners down by 1.5". Something I'll be definitely doing in the near future.

You know, I actually forgot to ask about towing. Since they remove torque management though, towing is something you should probably be gentle with.

I was afraid of that. I've heard so many good things about the B & G Flash and the extra performance it provides. Since I tow a 5500# trailer, especially with some decent mountain grades in California, I don't think it would be a wise mod for my needs. That is too bad since I'm not too thrilled with my Superchips. I've had issues with it messing up my PCM. I wonder if the Knock Controller mod from Hughes Engine will allow me to use a B & G Flash since the Knock Controller is designed to retard detonation. Just a thought. Any ways thanks Silver Dodge!

You can ask B&G not to remove torque management. The performance flash for stock intakes that they do actually doesn't mess with TM. I just asked them to remove it on mine like they do with the M1 flash, and they said sure. If I were you, I would still give Dave a call and ask him about it. I'm not an expert, so don't let my lack of certainty persuade you not to get a flash. They can flash your PCM anyway you want it, so I think they can still do something for you.

Silver Dodge- Thanks for that info. I will do that. I hope Dave from B & G can do that. Thanks!
