roller vs stamped steel
I'm curious to know what the hp difference is between a roller rocker vs stamped steel? I don't know of any mag that's done it recently. I know that you gain hp from the reduced friction but I want to know how much you actually gain. I'm arguing with a guy at work about this and he thinks there's only a few hp's gained vs as much as the manufacturs are saying. So who's right?
Take into consideration the rocker arm ratio. If you replace 1.5 ratio stamped rockers with 1.6 rollers you will pick up some power. I don't like aluminum for the street, stay with cast steel like Comp Cams.
David Vizard and his students at UNC-Charlotte's NASCAR Motorsports recently did a big test of 4 to 6 different Chevy SB roller rocker conversion kits, which are very similar to the Dodge Magnum/AMC rocker arms in geometry. It was surprising that many of the roller rockers tested did not make more hp, and several failed at high rpm in the test. This big test was either in Car Craft or Hot Rod magazine within the past 2-3 months.
It is noteworthy that GM decided to put high cost titanium connecting rods in the new LS7 engine, and several other expensive options, but left off roller tipped rockers.

For the price I don't think it's worth it to buy aftermarket roller rockers like those that everybody talks about for 400 bucks.Just go with the viper stampedroller rockers. And yes it will free up horsepower, but not enough to really argue about. You're looking at 5 hp at the most.
