2001 Ram 2500 Diesel
Number two son decided today would be a great day to service his Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins diesel quadcab 4x4. It's snowing here in Pa.
Anyway after a fuel filter change and much tearing of hair we determine the lift pump has died. The Dodge dealers sell a conversion pump kit that mounts in or near the fuel tank, it lists for $475.00. Auto Zone has the old style that mounts on the block for 160.00. I could do better off the internet (149.00) but don't want to wait.
There are other pumps that mount on the frame from places like Blue Ridge Diesel (around 275.00) and Diesel Performance (around the same price as the Mopar unit).
Any suggestions? Also if we go with the old style pump we're planning on a fuel pressure guage. Any help there? Summit Racing lists an Auto-meter but dosen't recommend it for the diesel.
As an aside it is amazing how muchDodge dealerservice managers don't know. I figured the lift pump was dead but had to confirm it here and other websites. The one thing the can tell you in a heartbeat though is when your warrenty expired.
