Default 01 360 distributor position

My buddy and I just got done putting in his reman 360 and the haynes book we have just doesn't do justice. i have it set at no 1 tdc and the rotor faced at the no 1 tdc mark on the distributor and the damn thing still won't fire. I thought it might have been 180 off but i tried it that way as well and it still won't fire. Does anyone know how to properly set it up? Ive never messed with a setup like this before with a crank position sensor and cam position sensor, so im kinda lost

Could be fuel sync. With the motor at TDC the slot in the oil pump drive gear should be aligned theway it is in the picture. Then you set the buttonto #1. You will need a mirror and a big screwdriver. Turn the gear clockwise and it will spin upward, disengaging it from the cam. Once it is disengaged, spin it a tooth to the right, then turn it counterclockwise to re-engage it. See where it lines up and repeat if neccessary. This is a big pain in the *** if you have the stock kegger installed. This will get you lined up enough to run. Then you will have to find someone with a Snap-on/DRB/Genysis scanner to adjust it correctly.
