Default Tranny won't go into park?

I have a 1999 Ram 2500 with the V10 automatic 2 wheel drive. Yesterday I was returning from home depot and pulled into the drive way which is on a slight incline. I put it into park, turned the key off and as I let my foot off the brake it started to roll forward and I could hear a ticking noise as it was rolling. I hit the brake and lifted on the shifter lever and it engaged park just fine. Then I left to go on an errand and when I got to my destination, it will not go into park at all. It stops at reverse, I can shift through all detents from low 1 to reverse, but it will not go into park. I climbed under the truck to look at the shift linkage and everything seems to be fine. I tried to put into park by grabbing the linkage bar that is attached to the tranny just above the pan and it is not letting me go past reverse. Any ideas why its doing this???

Sounds like the park rod is not engaging completelyin the transmission, it sets above the VB, I'm not even sure you can get to it without dropping the VB.

I would double check your linkage before taking it in, with help of a friend, climb under and make sure your not binding anywhere.
