From reading all of this it sounds as if it could be a wide range of problems. I wish I knew which problem my ram had, cause if it's the start of something big, I'd consider getting rid of it now. Mine has more of a metallic rattling, not a pinging, from under the hood. It only does it when a lot of gas is being fed to the engine, especially when I'm going up a hill, but sometimes on fast take off's. Please if anyone can narrow my problem down. Thanks.
Oh and I don't know if this helps, but I heard mention of premium gas helping this problem? As I said, I dont even know what the problem is, but I use regular 87 octane if that means anything.
yeah, i know wonce i start tearing it up, i will open up a whole can of worms. i know the bad idle is due to electronics issues, and the rattling/pinging turns out to be the kickdown cable. but last night my tranny started knocking. since the engine is running rough, it jacked up the bearings and probably chipped my gears. at the end of the week it will be better than new! haha.
echseman: So the rattling/pinging whileaccelerating up hills was caused by the "kick down" cable? I have exactly the same issue and got excited when I saw this thread. Please clarify when you get a chance. Thank you!
