Default Look At These Plugs......

Ok, all you spark plug readers out there - look at the plugs in this pic and tell me why they look like they do. They were Champion Truck Plugs and they had like 15k miles on them. I took a pic of 4 of them but they all look the same. Picture a little blurry cause I was trying to get close - but hopefully someone can tell me why they are this color.......

are they red ?
are they crusty red that scrapes off easily, or it is more of a baked on color ?
are you running any kind of fuel additives ?

been running fuel injector cleaner or race gas? i think even some detergents in our pump gas can make plugs turn colors

otherwise they look pretty good

No race gas - that only goes in the Nova

Baked-on red. Not crusty. And they are bright red.

Fuel additives - yes. I am a regular user of Lucas Fuel Conditioner. Had some Marvel Mystery Oil in it a couple tanks ago. I recently installed my round air cleaner setup with a new K&N filter - I even wondered if the color was from the oil in the filter but I can't really see that happening.
I have had a little pinging on a couple hills on the way to work lately, which I have never had before with my mods. Thats why I decided to change the plugs out. Put in Autolite 3923's - I'll see how that works......

i would guess its either the Lucas or the Marvel. i've never seen red plugs before. other than the color, they looked alright as best i could tell (the picture was sort of blurry). i couldn't see any fouling. i don't think it would be from the tiny bit of oil that would be in the filter. i would think the pcv would suck up more oil than you could ever get from the air filter. i'm also guessing that if the plugs have a baked on red residue then so does everything else, and i don't think that would be good. just my opinion. anybody else ?

it would be curious to know which it is, lucas or marvel. continue with whatever is in the current tank and check em in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the info. I'd say the "cheap gas" idea is it. I have never had pinging before and my mods should take care of that anyway. I get my gas mostly from Mobil and QuikTrip. Must be the "winter formula" here....
