Changing Instrument Cluster
it would help if you told us the year of your truck and whether your odometer is electronic or not.
i replaced my cluster last summer in my 01, which has the electronic digital odometer. the mileage is stored in the cluster. my mileage display changed from 120 back to 86. your mileage display will change back to 50k. its my understanding that the mileage number is additionally stored in the pcm, but it is not displayed.
there is no practical way to correct it. the way the dealer has to address this is that you buy a new cluster for about $600, and they send it out to dodge or somewhere with all kinds of certified paperwork, and they program in the mileage, and send it back to the dealer. appearantly, the dealers are not entrusted with this capability. hmm, what a surprise.
so congratulations, you just took 55k miles off your truck. btw, that will show up in carfax reports.
