If you think about it, it's really more of a repair than a mod. You did a good thing by fixing it. Decarbonizing the combustion chambers would be another good step toward a smoother running more efficient motor as well.
such as...seafoam maybe?
Seafoam works good. Short of pulling the heads and using elbow grease. I used Seafoam after I did my first plenum repair, but, when I got the Hughes heads in and did the the swap, there was still alot of carbon build-up on top of the pistons. I think that maybe (IF ANYONE COULD VERIFY THAT SEAFOAM IS IN NO WAY DETRIMENTAL TO RINGS) the best method would be to pull the plugs, and get an appropriately sized funnel to allow you to fill each cylinder with it, and let it sit overnight. I used elbow grease on everything but the piston tops. I used a Dewalt 3/8 drill motor with a brass spindel brush for those. Bye the Bye, that setup (drill with brass brush) has saved me countless hours on motor tear downs and rebuilds. It will take anything permatex or Fel-Pro has off in a flash, and will not pit aluminum (intakes, timing covers, wawapumps, inlet flanges, etc.), or most alloys.

Do you need to clean the Tb after Seafoam? I just put in an M1 and forgot to seafoam before the install. I can do it now but I don't feel like cleaning the Tb because I'm in the midlle of a audio upgrade.

Nahh ... Seafoam is for the combustion chambers and piston tops. Clean the TB later.

mine has stopped pinging on regular gas, and just seems to have more low rpm torque, especially daily driving up and down hills. i didn't have bad oil usage.
Same here.

last time i did a motor teardown i tried using the scotchbright wheels.. scuff wheels.. whatever you wanna call them.. kinda like a birllo pad with a shank.. looks like a spong.. that worked really well too.. just FYI.. i like using the brass wheels aswell..
