well,i had the hypertech max energy.performance was o.k. it netted me about 2-3mpg more,of coarse on the performance tune 91 octane or higher.and maybe 20hp.(no dyno for real numbers)

just got the superchip 3815 installed today. its not much better than the hypertech. maybe 5 more hp than the hypertech. 3815 on performance tune also. the claims of 46hp is nowhere even in the ballpark. havent had it long enough to tell any mpg difference.

gonna run this for a couple months and then try the sct.

there is a definite upgrade in performance with both from stock.neither one of them is really a big bang for the buck.

with this being said,i think the superchip is a little better than the hypertech.not alot,but there is a small difference.

 

This isn't meant to be derogatory, but how are you affording to test all of these programmers?

 

I'm wondering that too but that's also what everyone has been saying. They don't seem to do that much.

 

The best part about the hypertech, and the only real reason I bought a used one, was the speedo recalibration.

 

I have the Superchips 3815 and it seems to perform better a couple of hundred miles after the tune is loaded. I am very pleased with the programmer. I can climb hills now in overdrive where it used to have to downshift. Maybe mine had the deathflash before?

As far as the 46hp goes, what would 46 extra horsepower feel like on a 6000 pound truck?

 

Easy i bought his hypertech so he could buy the superchip lol, i got the hypertech mostly for the speedo adjustment

 

i know i like the 3815 , drive with it for a lil bit on performance setting

 

trucklover....46hp would feel like a pretty good boost being how are trucks are only around 250hp stock.do you use the power wire with your programmer?

i was pleased with both. both have the rev limiter increase,performance/tow tune,top speed increase,tire size, and code reader. code reader is worth the investment.neither one adjusts shift points for our trucks.(since they are not controlled that way.)but they both do help in performance.the 3815 has just a little bit more power.i would buy it again for the perfomance boost.

 

I do have the powerwire installed along with the programmer. I really am not sure how much that adds to the truck though. (I am too lazy to unplug it to see!!) I also have the valve timing mechanically advanced two degrees. I was concerned when I bought the programmer that all my mods wouldn't work well with the programmer, but the truck really picked up when I set the programmer to the performance mode. Like I said before, it takes a couple hundred miles to really feel the most gain. I guess the computer is learning the new settings?

which generally match what other posters have said

it would be better to compare the programmers
using on the road acceleration runs
and perhaps a free (but good) horsepower estimator like

rather than making guesses at what the MPG changes are
it would be good to do 'convoy tests' with two Rams
where the programmer is compared to what the stock Ram does
on the same highway in same conditions

eBay and CraigsList has changed many things,
and one thing new in these internet times
is that you can buy what used to be an expensive mod,
try it out,
then sell it for a pretty good percentage of what you paid,
reducing final cost of the experiment
