Default what is this noise (video)

i'm not sure how the gears hook up to the front axle but this doesn't sound right to me, almost like the axle is flopping around in the axle tube.

has anyone had the u-joints in the wheel go bad before and if so, did they make this clunking noise.

I didn't even have to start the video to see the u joint is bad. This is a very common part to go bad on our Rams.

If you are talking about the ujoints in the vid, yeah mine were bad on my truck with only 55k on it. I could reach up and grab the knuckle and move it around, assuming you could do the same thing, if it's the same thing. Mine made noise, but only heard it inside the cab, so it didn't sound quite like that.

Yep sounds like the U joint, you might want to check your hub too. My truck was making a similar noise Friday, ended up putting a new hub and u joint in it today. What a pain it was too lol.

so what ya'll are saying is that the u-joint will make a knocking sound like that? i was thinking that was the problem anyway because i stuck a prybar on it for a stethescope and could't isolate the sound and with the tire spinning i couldn't put it on the u-joint.

i'm gonna get a definate answer to if its that tomorrow after a drive because when a u-joint is out of grease it gets hot. i get under my truck every now and then and feel the u-joints on the rear drive shaft because they don't have grease fittings and i don't want to have another one seize up on me. the last time i did them on the drive shaft i broke a c-clamp and a vise before i broke out the arbor press, then when i broke it loose all that was left in the cracked caps was dust and a couple pieces of needle bearings.
