You do not want a death flash. It basically robs the engine's performance. To know if you have the deathflash, look on your PCM for a sticker that looks like this:

^This should probably be in the FAQ or something.

The superchips will override the death flash.

The death flash is the program on the PCM meant to hide the issues associated with a broken plenum gasket.

The Superchips saves that program (as a backup) and then overwrites it with a performance program. So yes, it "fixes" the death flash.

The 3815 is the older unit. It works fine for our trucks. The 3865 has a more refined interface, color screen (with improved backlight, supposedly), and works for more vehicles. It also works fine for our trucks. If you don't mind used, I'd say get either, whichever is cheaper. If you prefer brand new, get the 3865.

If you really want the best, Hemifever is, IIRC, still offering his special "holiday" pricing for the better custom tuned SCT tuners. Below is an email I received from Sean (Hemifever). His email is hemifever@aol.com if you want to buy one.

I offer two types of tuning packages. Price includes the tuner and tuning shipped to the US.

A "can/as is" tune for $275 (normally $449). I'll increase your speed limiter and reduce/remove tq mgmt. I change the timing and fuel curve but no extra improvement customizations are used. I'll use a timing curve that works really well. If for some reason it's too aggressive for your octane quality I will correct that. I got hosed back in 2001 when I got my '01 Ram custom flashed and it spark knocked. The company wanted another $300 to customize the timing table. If you choose this and then want custom programming later it's just a $100.

$375 (normally $549) is custom programming. That includes unlimited updates on the current configuration. If you change cams or heads, etc and need more tuning later, there are no fee's. If you switch trucks and need a completely new tuning config, there will be a $50 fee. A wideband a/f gauge is pretty much required for tuning with heads, cam installs.

the previous owner had a problem with the PCM in my truck when he had it,right about when the timing chain and LIM/UIM gaskets started acting up..and i believe he took the computer into the dealer and had em mess with it..and it fixed it

next time i talk to him i will for sure ask him for more info on that..and post it back here..
