Default 318 360 swap

I know this has been covered many times but I still have some unanswered questions. I talked to an old Chrysler mechanic and he said that it can't be done with out spending a lot of cash. I have a 99 1500 5.2 that has a dead cylinder. Was looking into the 360 swap I can get a 360 for 550 with low miles but what else do I need and what needs to be done ie: PCM, harness, starter, alternator etc

As long as everything works, it should be mostly drop it, minus the PCM.

Make sure the heads are good, change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and plenum, timing set, maybe water pump before you put it in.

That way you eliminate most issues BEFORE the engine is in the truck.

What would be the PCM issue? The computer I can get as well but how would I know if my harness would plug in and work as far as the number of pins in the harness and computer.

The PCM's were the same from 1997-2001 as far as I know. So 99-00 will be alright.

The 5.2 PCM will make the engine run lean, and the 2000 PCM would work, but it would nee to be re-flashed with the trucks VIN and some other info that currently escapes me. lol

So if I got the PCM from the 2000 got it reflashed I'd be good then? It'd be a plug in play pretty much minus swapping tourqe converter?

Should be good, re-flashes ain't cheap though.

Torque converter would need to be replaced. (thanks for reminding me. )

all you need is the flexplate for the 5.9, and an sct tuner. sean can give you a program for a 5.9 instead of your 5.2 im in the middle of this swap myself. though its a bit more complicated. just reuse your pcm, and engine harness. you may need to swap intake manifolds because i believe 97's have 2 coolant temp senders.

I have a 99 and the donor truck is a 00. Only reason I have so many questions is because everyone's input is different. Yes u can use your computer or no you have to switch.

you dont need to switch your computer. just buy an sct tuner from hemi fever. be sure to tell him that you need a tune for a 5.9 instead of a 5.2. like i said all you will need is the flexplate from the 5.9, just use your current wiring harness, as the 00 harness will be a bit different.
