USUALLY after the 3rd or 4th attempt it will start. But one time I was stuck at a store for 30 minutes trying to get it started. I took out the button and also tried with my key. No luck. Kind of embarrassing to be driving a nice, newer car and it won't start.
This morning I went to start it, and it tried then died. So I tried again, and it just tried and tried, AND TRIED. It scared me, so I push the stop button, then tried again and started fine.
Nowadays I'm afraid to turn it off....I usually leave it running when I have to run in someplace.

Yvilla,

Have you had your no start concerns reviewed at a Dodge dealer? If you would like additional assistance or have any questions please PM me and I;d be happy to help.

We had the same problem with our 2011 Citadel. It was the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). As others have said, it happens generally around 40~50k miles (just out of warranty), and will cost you $1100 plus if you don't get help from Chrysler. In our case, we had a history of issues dating back to while it was still under warranty, so they agreed to pay for the part if we paid the labor.

Bad news is, the TIPM is a hot commodity. It's the same TIPM that is used in the 2011-13 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and if you want to see tons of TIPM issues just google it. Rumor has it there are over 2500 TIPMs on backorder, and the supplier can only provide a hundred or so a week. It took us 75 days to get a replacement, which just came in this week.

I've been a life long Chrysler owner for nearly 30 years, but this lack of customer parts support has challenged my loyalty to buy another one. The Durango is a wonderful vehicle and I really don't want to trade it in, but until they admit they have a problem and that it has been corrected through a design/vendor change, they cannot convince me that this new TIPM will not do it again.

Good luck to everyone that experiences this TIPM issue.

Backordered parts, not just Chrysler, have been at the forefront of customer complaints and our agony since the magical fun days of the economic "crash" and the Auto Bankrupty. Don't believe that it's just one manufacturers problem.

The bankrupsty courts and our wonderful goverment saw fit to feed the fat cats the remaining spoils and told a large number of parts vendors to go jump in a lake. Many went out of business. It's a whole new fantastic cluster$#% of a situation and seems to have become the norm.

Even the "Holy Grail" of car manufacturers has problems.....

Years ago we owned a Ford Exploder 1998. We left for Vacation and came home to all the windows open in it, doors unlocked and a complete mess because it has rained real bad.
It had what ford called a Bad Gem Module! The same thing as a TIPM I beleive and we waited about 3-4 weeks for the new one to come and and then it needed a wiring harness plus new carpet and upholstery. All covered by Ford but didnt have car for 2 months. Jumping forward to today My Friend has a new Exploder and its been at the dealer for 2 weeks same symptoms as our tipm issues, dealer cannot get parts!
The problem as said above the smaller manufacturers are gone that were abundant. Dodge doesnt actually make those modules, they send it out for Bid and then we are stuck where we are at now waiting for replacements

WEll sounds like I was lucky with ours to be able to get the TIPM back in May/June when I had the issue. Sounds like a recall is in order, however this may ne be considered a safety related issue, unless it happens to you away from home.

Good point. I hadn't thought about the collapse of the industry and how that impacted the OEMs. And you are right that buying another brand is most likely just buying different problems, since most of the manufacturers use the same OEMs for the components. I think once we get our Durango back and the dust settles, my wife will fall back in love with it and all will be well.

And if there is good news in all of this, it is that the starter problem is generally a progressive issue with plenty of warning signs before a complete failure occurs (at least for us that was the case). One hint of another problem and it's trade-in time!

You have to wonder also if the suppliers are skipping a process here and there to speed things up. I won't go into details, but I know it happens.

There were also many issues i've run into where there were connectors that weren't seated all the way, or a terminal backed out partially. There are some under the glove box up against the "firewall" and a couple big connectors behind the right kick panel. I would bet that a certain portion of these TIPM replacements are because someone didn't look closer at them or consider them at all.

We hardly ever do any TIPMs on the GC and Durango here, maybe that's why?? I dunno....

After recently adding a stereo system accessory I did notice the pins in these harness's bend very easily.
Since the problem is intermittent the TIPM's could be getting damaged from shorting pins as well.
