my efan is setted to 160 the t -stat 180 is installed... and i drill that hole with the exact same size (check valve) and the temp almost join the half temp on cold weather...i tested the coolant and i it show the maximum...maybe my coolant is 100% pure...i will flush it out again ...and add a 60/40 new mix.

Just did this today. Hardest part was they put the clamp on the lower radiator hose right in front of the bolt so I could not get a socket on it...had to use an open end and it took a little bit of time...lol

this is an old thread and probably a stupid question. but do you have to drain all the coolant to install this new thermostat? and is there a 180 thermostat that anyone recommends other than the NAPA one that needs modifying. i would want one i could just throw on and not mess with. thanks

Yes you have to drain the radiator but it's pretty simple and straight forward.

Nice write up
Did u have a hot temperature issues? Or what was the reason to remove the temperature sensor?
