Apparently not. A nurse on the OB unit caught what she thought was a heart murmur. Our Doctor told us that he was notified by a cardiac specialist from Children's Hospital in OKC. We have an appointment at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday to find out if it could be serious or not. Doc didn't seem to be too worried, but we are.
So if you guys could think about Jase, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'll let you all know what's up. Otherwise, he's gaining weight and doing fine.
Thanks.
Two things:

1) I will think happy thoughts and spread them into the universe on Jase's behalf

2) What was the inspiration for the name "Jase" ?

Just kinda worked out that way. Tried to be a little unique.

I have an update. Turns out that the murmur is caused by a hole between his left and right ventricle, and will require surgery to fix. Luckiy, for some reason there is something plugging up the hole. We are instructed to of course watch him closely, and feed him whenever he wants to get him to gain weight to prepare for the surgery. We'll have a couple more visits next month for check-ups. We'll go from there. Otherwise he's very healthy. This is just a little hurdle in life I'm sure we'll clear.

Oh, yeah! We just have to watch a little closer than before. Mommy's watchin' like a hawk. The initial shock has worn down a little bit, but things will get really tense before the surgery. I just can't believe my boy is gonna have freakin' surgery. We've got a great support system here at home, but that doesn't mean we couldn't use some encouraging words.

Yes, I am christian. And I just asked for everyone's positive thoughts because I know religion can be a touchy subject. Any prayer will greatly appreciated. And bless you too for the notion. He (Jase) has an appointment on 9-2-2010 for a checkup. I'll definitely let ya'll know. I've heard that this condition can heal itself. Jase's hole is just a little too large to ignore. Hopefully my next report will be that it's all better or at least on the way.

It's actually quite common, especially in pre-mature deliveries. The inner walls of the heart are the last to develop, so sometimes there is a hole. Most often they will close on their own, back in the day it was often never detected and never caused an issue. With modern medical technology they are prone to not wait long before going in and operating. It's a very routine procedure these days.
I know it's easy for me to say, not being the parent, but you don't have much to worry about. Just take the recommended precautions...

Thanks, everyone.
That's what a lot of friends are saying.
My way to handle this is to hope for self healing, and if not, believe that everything will go well with the surgery.
Like I said before, he's in great shape otherwise.
He'll get to drive the Dakota in 2026.
If any one's interested, he's getting mad because he has the hiccups.
