What tire size is better in your opinion?
Hey guys,
Im working on burning off my current firestones. Im not a big fan of them. Ill be picking up a new set of tires hopefully by September. At my local Farm and Fleet, they carry the BFG A/Ts I want, but they dont have 245/70/16s. They do have 245/75/16s though measuring in at 1 inch taller than stock. They also have 265/75/16s measuring 2 inches taller and 1 inch wider. The 265s would be $40 more for the set. Which tire size would you go with and why? Im pretty set on the BFG A/Ts because I know the life of the tire will extend past how long I will own the truck and I dont want to put another set of tires on this truck.
Im looking for a beefy tire, but I dont really want to slow myself down. So thats why Im thinking about just doing the 245/75/16s. One inch bigger wont kill me. Im not sure how big of a difference 2 inches will make on my truck's speed. And I dont want to end up having to trim anything, so would the 265s fit with no rubbing? I do think the 265s would look better if they would fit and wouldnt slow me down too much. Thanks for your input.
And if you have a tire you prefer, go ahead and post pics or the info on them. Im always open to different options, and I would love to see what the bigger size tires look like on our stock rims.
Tire Sizes:
245/70/16 = 29.5in tall, 9.6in wide
245/75/16 = 30.5in tall, 9.6in wide
265/75/16 = 31.6in tall, 10.4in wide

What tire size came on your dakota from the factory? Mine had Goodyear 265/70R16 All Terrain Tires on it from the factory. Let me know if you want me to post pictures of them on the stock wheel.
My truck has the 245/70s and I think that's what I will end up getting. I stopped at another tire shop on the way home and was quoted $850 for 4 BFG ATs 245/70s. I measured the current tires on my truck and they measure 28 inches. If I put on any tire bigger than 31 inches I will end up having to trim the wheel wells I think. Ill check to see if I can get a 265/70. Thanks for your response brian.
Thanks for the PM Brian! I love your new wheels and tires btw .... but I know how much they cost. lol. I think I read that you arent lifting/leveling your truck in any way? How tall and wide do those tires measure? Any rubbing at all?
I just looked on BFGs website and they do carry the tire in a 265/70/16 so that will probably be the size I go with if the 265/75 wont fit. That one inch of tire really does make a difference. In your pics the tires just fill up the wheel wells more.

Thanks, there is no rubbing at all that I have noticed on the new wheels and tires. I have not measured how tall or wide they are though, I will try to tomorrow and pm you the measurements. As far as the leveling kits I really do not want to raise it anymore since it is what me and the girlfriend drive when we take our young kids along and I do not want it much higher because it will make things difficult getting them in and out. If I do anything to it at all it would be to do like Blown did and get some shackles to lower the back some.
About the pictures I sent you of my truck when it had the 265 70 16's I really liked them they were a big meaty tire. In fact I liked them so much I am keeping the stock aluminum wheels and the tires instead of selling them in case I need to do some off road duty or hauling. The tires still have about 65% or more tread left. When they were on I felt like I could just go over parking lot curbs, medians in the street or cut through my neighbors yard if i wanted too lol. Basically like I could go anywhere but with these new wheels and tires I get worried hitting a pot hole.

That's the size of my factory tires. There about 31 inches. Any thing taller that that you will need a leveling kit and minor trimming..
