Default Gotta vent...

Sorry but I just got done changing the oil in my truck and I know everyone knows this but I just gotta say, who was the idiot engineer who decided to put a cross member right under the oil drain plug? I was under there looking at it and it would not have been that hard to move the drain plug to the side.....i know this has been beat to death, but even putting a drain pan underneath, oil still splashes everywhere when it starts to hit that cross member. I installed one of those drain valves with this oil change, so hopefully the next one wont be so messy. I'm just sayin...

Last time I changed the oil I just put a really big pan under there and got the hell out of the way.

It's annoying but since I expect it now it doesn't really bother me, I just plan on it making a mess and make sure I wipe off the crossmember afterward.

Ive learned to save a half gallon milk jug when Im getting ready to change the oil. I cut it in half and use it as a funnel so no oil gets on that cross member. Ive got skinny long fingers so I have no problem getting my hands in there with the half of milk jug to pull and replace the plug.

Unfortunately I got the one without the hose connection nipple on the end. I ordered the wrong one, but it will make changing the oil a bit easier, I'll have to try the milk jug trick rengnath does to keep from splattered oil everywhere. I park in a heated, carpeted garage (yes, she rests on carpet at night, lol) and the oil has ruined it in several places....

i want to get me one of those valve thingys also. i hate the oil splater, even though i'm using the milk gallon trick but it'll be nice to do an easy oil change without all the oil cleaning or extra home made inventions..... lol
