oh the manual V8...pretty rare...even blown has said in the past that it is very hard to find cause no one is giving them up! I worked at dodge for about 3 years in some change and i only saw very few maybe 2 if that!

I had my mind set on a 3rd gen manual V8 when i was looking for a new truck and it took me a little over 4 months to find one and when I did I had to drive almost 2 hours to go get it.

I would imagine that they would only stem about from a custom build. Like, if someone just wanted the V8 option added to there ST package.

Usually dodge would mate an automatic tranny to the V8, along with a higher trim level, and pre build the standard tranny with a V6.

I have a 6-speed getrag on my V6 by choice, because I planned, and still plan, to keep this truck and run it into the ground, and The auto tranny track record of dodge trucks in the last few generations have been below the average....way below.

and thats the only reason i picked mine is because my family is hell on autos for some reason, we all have owned dodges at some point and all the autos were = crap. i dont know how the new ones are holding up.

The 545rfe hasnt been all that bad from what I have read. In the G3 Dakotas, they should last a long time ..... its the same tranny mated with the 5.7l Hemis and they are putting out alot more power and seem to hold up.
