should have said that, do not install the resistor. just use the butt splices and some extra 18 or 20 gauge wire . disconnect the battery like canadian dakota said to clear the code. If it comes back, hook up a reader and see what the code is (or take it to autozone or someplace that will read it for you), it might be something totally unrelated since you had disconnected a lot of stuff when you removed the stock air intake. All the sensor does is sense temperature. It would not matter if it were installed in the intake or hanging outside it. If that is what really threw the code then it either got damaged or the wires are disconnected somehow.

question, is there an extender that i could buy so i wouldnt have to splice the wire. i know its easy but id rather not cut wires lol. i saw that sonnex connecter and it looked alot like the connecters used to connect to the sensor. i know its totally for a diff purpose but still got me thinking

not sure about that. You'd probably have to buy the factory connectors and make your own.

The price for a new IAT Sensor is about $16 dollars (US). When I built my CAI I bought an extra IAT Sensor to install in the new CAI and it works great.
