Default subwoofer enclosure 2005 dak quadcab

just wondering if anyone has subs in their 2005 quadcab daks. i talked to a few stereo shops and they all said the 2005 dakota is a horrible truck to put a sub box in. i though it would be possible to fit it behind the seat with some low profile subwoofers. the jbl's and exile audio subs only need like 3 inches of clearance to fit.

anyone have thoughts or experience on this?

i'm going to have subs in my dakota...and when i took it to the electronic shop the guy was just like WOW no room at all! but he told me he'd have to cut out that 6-7 inch uprising and indenture we have under our rear seats and build a custom box and put my two 12's there with the amp in the middle! cause i wanna be able to lift up my rear seas and show em off after! not hidden behind the rea where they can't be seen!

I had a custom box put between the driver and passenger seats. It hits hard for only a 10, but I def regret not just getting a slim sub to put behind the seats :\ I miss having a 6th passenger

Good luck with that...
The fuel tank is just about an inch and a half below that area on the driver side and the frame rail is about 2 or 3" below on the other side. The driveshaft is also
something that would need to be contended with.

I thought the very same thing, but have decided against trying to put subs there. I might cut that area out, to add about 1/2" to 3/4" of depth (that's all I really need ), to mount my amps and a processor there. I'm also going to look at modifying the seats to gain the extra room needed.

I'm toying with several ideas now for sub placement. I'm leaning towards going very unconventional with the sub system. I would like to keep as much of the audio system as hidden as possible. I had even thought about keeping the stock deck, until I verified that I can't get an iPod adapter for it, so my screen will be going in that I had in my previous vehicle.

ya i thought about cutting out the space under the seat but saw that it is actually the bototm of the truck and the fuel tank is right under it. you could still maybe cut it out and put some low profile subs in there, jbl makes some 13.5 inch low profile subs but they cost like $500 each. would be sick

The worst part about that is it would look like ***.

The back of the seats would also need to be modified, since the bottoms and backs are tied together and need to move fluidly.

Cutting out the floor would be easier and could be made to look better. I have another idea that I'll probably use, that would retain all the cargo space (really can we call what is under the seat "cargo space?"), and is something I've wanted to do for a long time, just need to see if there is enough space to do it.
