Reminds me of my first summer driving.

The year I turned 18 years old (a long time ago!) I got my driver's license on a Friday and the following Monday I was driving a 5-ton International van and a 3-ton Dodge dump body van at a psychiatric hospital. The 3-ton dodge was for garbage pick-up around the hospital and then delivery to the land-fill (it was a dump back then). My assistant was a patient that suffered from seizures and always wore a hockey helmet. One day, we loaded up at one of the buildings, closed the tailgate and started around our respective sides of the truck. I got in, buckled up and waited. After a few minutes, there was nobody next to me. Looked in the mirrors, and nothing. Got out and walked around and there he was lying in the pavement, having a seizure. It finished, he jumped up and off we went. It's frustrating, rewarding, great and awful, and so much more working with differently enabled, isn't it?

I go to a community college where I study automotive technology..I strictly take BMW courses and am currently interacting with a couple of BMW dealerships to find a paid co-op for the summer (part of my credentials). It is a two year associates program. For now I have a couple of part time jobs to pay for gas, food etc. Fortunately, I paid off the truck last summer!

Our assistants on the truck never have disabilities like that, it's too much of a liability. But back at the shop, the shop managers are all trained in particular types of incident management and most are nurses. Of the few slow days I've spent there, there's never a dull moment. I have seen a couple seizures, attacks, and overall a lot things that make me glad I'm not trained to be there full time.

Much happier being a driver with the responsibility of keeping wads of paper and one mostly-able-bodied assistant safe. Strange thing is, I get paid more than most of shop managers.

It seems that everyone has an amazing job here. I'm stuck working at the biggest racetrack in the country. Belmont Park. I work maintainence, its easy and apparently I'm in local 3 electricians.. but the pay is definitely not enough to keep up with car payments and gas prices. Lol
I also work at enterprise rent a car for the weekends.

I transport petroleum products to convenience stores via tractor trailer. Went to technical school for automotive technology right out of high school and did that for a while. Mainly auto electrical and small engine. Hauling hazardous materials pays a lot more though.

Full time student working on degrees in biology and forensic science with minors in physics and chemistry. Also a part time Apple computer salesman. Im a jack of all trades (hence the 4 sciences). I helped my dad around the house on just about everything & same on cars and his boat. Needless to say, I'm purty handy.

Not sure what my future will bring but I love working on things and fixing things and with my education, I may just be a surgeon! tho I doubt that....
