I don't feel the need to drive that fast, so I have no use for one.

First b/c of all the radar vans and photo cameras if you want a good radar detector that will cover your *** it needs to have GPS and they cost more. Now as far as quality radar detectors go this is my thoughts:

Valentine 1- Most expensive and over rated. For just radar they are the best, but zero GPS options and again the real tickets peopel get are the photo ones which can only be caught by GPS locations.

Best bang for the buck is Beltronics. For around $200- $350 you can get a sick unit that will cover the GPS aspects and has very good radar detection. Escort also makes a nice high end radar.

Best value brand is Cobra- I have a 2 year old Cobra GPS 9960 I bought on Amazon for $110 and it kicks **** all over the place. But here is the kicker I had to deal with 2 s-h-it units before I got one that actually worked like it is supposed to. Now 2 years later I am still gravy and have avoided many tickets.

So to conclude any Medium or entry level Detectors will most likely suck *****. Shoot for high end units and really look to find last years models at discounted prices.

^ well said. Out of the few I've owned the beltronics performed the best. I no longer use one.

I have a Escort 8500X50 (with the old school S7 antenna vs the new M4) and have it stealth mounted in the visor where nary a LEO has ever seen it. Also have a remote mute button in the dash which is handy. It's saved me a number of times, but is no replacement for keen observation skills.

Think I have a cheap Cobra 5 band one in my car. Saved my *** a few times on trips, but I usually don't go more than 5 over on the speed limit. If you have the overhead console or a autodim mirror (or both), I think you can get it hardwired in there.
