Accident Advice
Hello again. I recently was gently scraped by a CR-V, while I was in Dunkin Donuts, along the chrome part of the front bumper. It's not to bad, but I stopped the guy before he left. (He said he didn't even realize he hit me.) Anyways, he gave me his info and told me to call him and he'll pay for the repairs. I went to a body shop who is fair with me and I'm honestly am not trying to screw the guy who hit me over, but the estimate came out to $504. ($364 for just the chrome piece, $100 labor for 2 hours, and then $40 tax.) Should I just call up the guy and tell him to write me a check for that much, or how does this part work? lol
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
*to pay*. Not "yup part". Wtf is that anyway..lol stoopid phone.
Yeah I figured that, so I'll just call him tomorrow and tell him the quote and offer to fax him the paper breaking it down. And should I suggest maybe if write me a check or whatever for 400 dollars, I'll buy it myself and install myself. Doesn't seem too hard to do.
Took me a while to understand at first, but don't worry, I read phone mistake language. lol
Make sure and have his insurance ready and your insurance's phone number handy. I had a similar issue happen to me, it was small impact to passenger side quarter panel. After paint, which was most of the cost, came to $600-$700 or so. I went back to the person who hit me, who wanted to pay out of pocket, and they balked at me. After discussion with their spouse, they offered me $100 and threatened me with a lawyer. They had misinterpreted the quote I gave them (they tried to read it and obviously had no comprehension) and they were out of touch with the price of vehicle repairs today (both were older, 60s).
I called my insurance company on Saturday, and the truck was completely fixed by Friday. Your insurance company can do what mine did, force theirs to pay. It helps that I had emails where she admitted fault. Even got a rental to get to work the two days it was in the repair shop.

I got off easy I guess compared to most.
I had a 16 yr old run right into the side of my box (I was driving past a parking lot, and she pulled out) Well she tried to drive away, and I fallowed her, My bro seen it and also fallowed me.
Well, She got home and ran inside, I got her mom at the door, and explained to her what happened, she was shocked. Anyways got a quote, $1280 for the repair. She cut a check for $1300 even.
No problems, Altho she originally argued over why I wanted her insurance information still when she was going to pay out of pocket. I said Id just call the police and her daughter can get hundreds in fines, lose her license (Atleast a year) and charged with hit and run.
I had them not do a few things when I took it in, and made $400 or so. Since I planned to bedliner the bumper and replace the mudflaps, also removed the toolbox/backrack myself.

Do not settle for less than the estimate. If it is $504, collect $504 with a signed statement of the exchange and what it was for. If the other guy doesn't want to do it, file a claim with either his insurance or your own. If you file it through your own, you will have to pay your deductable, initially. However, your company will go after the other guys insurance for a reimbursement for the damage, AND your deductable. If you have any other questions, let me know. My wife works for State Farm.

I initially tried to file a claim with the at-fault-person's insurance company. However, the idiot co-worker who hit me asked them to put the claim on hold while they debated paying out of pocket, so it was put on hold for a week. Then they offered me $100. Thats when I called my insurance company.
The other insurance company doesn't work for you, they work for their client (the person that hit you). Don't play their game, if you are going to file a claim, have your insurance file the claim on your behalf. That "forces" it through, and the other person cannot put a hold or otherwise interfere if they were clearly at-fault.
So I called the guy yesterday with the price and left a detailed message. He called me up just asking where to send the check. Very happy it went to smoothly.
Thanks for the help!
